VAMs are a special variety or repeated error. The term VAM is a acronym combining the names of the two authors that published a book documenting these known variations over 40 years ago. Leroy C. Van Alland and A. George Mallis wrote the their publication focusing on Morgan silver dollars (1878 - 1904/1921 and the Peace Dollars (1921 - 1935). There are approximately 6,000 VAMs known to be in existance today.
