The Philadelphia Mint was the first mint in the United States to produce coinage. The Coinage Act of 1792 led to the creation of the first mint located in the city of Phildelphia, which was the United States capital at that time.
All Proofs were minted in Philadelphia, with the exception of a few San Francisco minted proofs for the 1921 silver dollar.
Mint marks are located appear underneath the tail feathers on the coin's reverse between the D and O of the word Dollar. Other additional city mint marks would include CC for Carson City, D for Denver, O for New Orleans and S for San Francisco.
