So the questions remains where did the 12,000 regular circulated silver dollars go. Some believe they were never minted in the first place while other believes the 1895 Silver Dollar might have been melted down for various reasons. Either way this is an extremely rare coin. Since all collectors wanting to complete their series will need the year the demand is extremely high.

There are 3 with the wrong number of tail feathers. First off an eagle has 7 tail feathers. The die some how ended up with eight tail feathers. The first error is the 1878 8TF Silver Dollar. After awhile the error was detected, but to fix it the dies were over punched resulting in the 1878 7/8TF Silver Dollar. By the end of 1878 they ended up with an eagle and 7 tail feathers.
