After the Pittman Act, which called for over 270 million coins to be melted back into silver bullion, the Morgan Dollar returned with the 1921 silver dollar. This was the last year Morgan Silver Dollars were minted.
Philadelphia minted 44,690,000 with an est. 250 proofs
Denver produced 20,345,000 with 0 proofs
San Francisco struck 21,695,000 with 0 proofs
There is a big time gap between the 1904 Silver Dollar and the 1921 Silver Dollar. So when the time came to mint the Morgan Dollar again in 1921 the fact that all dies were destroyed in 1910 became an issue. So Morgan had to come up with a whole new die.
